Starfield Modding

Designer | In Progress | 2025

After recently trying out Starfield, I decided to take a little jaunt into the game’s Creation Kit as an exercise— always good to pick up a new tool!

Many years ago I made a brief foray into modding Skyrim, so I already have a tiny bit of familiarity with the toolset and with Papyrus to build on. Starfield is an interesting deviation from Bethesda’s other game worlds, both in theming and in structure, which means interacting with the familiar systems in novel ways.

This page will be different from the other projects on this site— I plan to update over the coming days as I continue this modding journey in my spare time after work!

Day One (6/24/2025): Cheats

What better way to start than by creating a container full of money, conspicuously laying around in the middle of a heavily-populated New Atlantis spaceport? In the interest of getting my feet under me, I decided to scope very low for baby’s first Starfield mod.

After re-familiarizing myself with the Creation Kit’s layout, making a few config changes to be able to test in-game, and parsing the game’s file structure, the first thing I did was create a new lootable container filled with money and place it in within the cell.

After exporting to a master file, I booted up the game and enabled my little baby’s first Starfield mod through the Creations page. I traveled to New Atlantis and— after being rudely photobombed by Vasco— found my ill-gotten gains.

Most of my time today was spent simply orienting myself in the Creation Kit and relearning the basics of exporting and testing mods. Tomorrow, I’m going to play around with levels more in order to familiarize myself with how to edit cells!
